Snow Ice Cream

Snow Ice Cream

We used to make this when my kids were little and they always loved it alongside some hot cocoa! We are in the middle of an ice storm right now so the roads and school are closed. My kids are teenagers now, but they still enjoyed this treat today. It has a more icy texture than regular ice cream, but it is fun nonetheless. Also, I included variations because if you live in the south like we do, when it snows or sleets, there is no going to the grocery store for ice cream supplies. I hope you like it!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk, or heavy cream, or I’ve seen recipes with 1/2 cup condensed milk and 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup pure cane sugar
  • 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 6-8 cups snow

Directions

Combine milk, sugar, and vanilla extract in a large bowl and put in refrigerator.

Go outside and scoop up 6-10 cups of snow in a large bowl. Go back inside and get warm.

Remove milk mixture from refrigerator and add ice cream one cup at a time, stirring as you go.

Taste and add snow as desired.

Use a hand mixer and continue blending and the consistency will start to resemble soft serve ice cream.

Serve immediately. You can save in a bowl outside in the snow or in the freezer, but it tastes best eaten right away!
