Chicken Bone Broth in Crock Pot
This is a time saver and a money saver. I used to make bone broth on the stove until I realized I could make it in a crock pot. Every time I make a whole chicken, I keep the crock pot going with the bones and leftover mystery meat. It tastes different every time, but is so much healthier than the store bought version. When using this in recipes, you will have to adjust your seasonings to taste.
I keep a ziplock bag of frozen vegetable trimmings in my freezer so when I make this, I always have extra vegetables on hand like carrot tops, onion trimmings, celery tops, etc.
*This is DAIRY FREE and GLUTEN FREE*
Ingredients
- chicken bones, skin, carcass
- water to cover
- 1-2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- optional vegetables: onion, celery, carrot tops, etc.
Directions
Place chicken carcass and vegetables in crock pot. Cover with water.
Add 1-2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar.
Cook on low for 20-24 hours. It is done when the bones start to disintegrate. You can test this by crushing with your fingers. If they crush or disintegrate, then the broth is done.
After done, let cool. Then, remove as many bones and veggies as possible. Place a mesh strainer over a large measuring cup or bowl with a spout and pour liquid into strainer/bowl to strain out extra pieces.
Measure out desired amount into separate freezer containers. Freeze and use as needed.
